BERNE — The Berne-Knox-Westerlo Athletic Department along with the BKW Sports Booster Club are hosting their first-ever Christmas Tournament. Both boys’ and girls’ varsity and junior-varsity teams will be participating in the two-day event.

EAST BERNE — Elizabeth “Betty” Clarke O’Hanlon died peacefully, the same way she lived her life, on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at St. Peter’s Hospital after a long illness. She was 96.

Mrs. O’Hanlon was born on Oct. 6, 1919, the oldest child of Thomas and Emma Clarke of Rensselaer.

WESTERLO — Virginia A. Diederich, a local radio company co-owner with a strong sense of humor, died at her home on Friday, Sept. 20, 2015, after a long battle with cancer. She was 66.

Mrs. Diederich was born in Albany in March of 1949. She married Tom Diederich in 1976; they were married for 39 years.

WESTERLO — Dennis C. Smith, a husband and father who loved to travel and also a long-time New York University faculty member and criminal justice scholar credited with reducing crime in New York City, died on Monday, July 27, in Manhattan. He was 69.
