Berne-Knox-Westerlo graduates received these awards at commencement exercises on June 23:

— Travis Jackson, Albany City Lodge 540 Knights of Pythias Scholastic Achievement Award;

— Marcy Forti, Albany County 4-H Leaders Association Scholarship;

— Laura Grippin, Albert J. Leombruno Memorial Award;

BERNE — A long-time soccer coach for Berne-Knox-Westerlo is the newest member of the New York State Boys’ Soccer Coaches’ Hall of Fame. He was named on Nov. 11.

The inductee, Jim Gillis, coached boys’ varsity soccer for 22 years. During that time, his team totaled 202 wins and attended five league championships.

BERNE — This coming weekend’s football game between Granville and Helderberg Valley has been rescheduled, and will now be played on Friday night, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. at Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s field.

It is BKW’s Homecoming Weekend, and it’s also Senior Night.

 

The Bulldogs of Berne-Knox-Westerlo and the Dutchmen of Guilderland smile, tumble, and fly high during the Section 2 winter cheer championships last Saturday at Colonie High School in efforts to head to Syracuse for the state competition.

BKW-Voorheesville wrestlers were able to place at the Section II Class CC Wrestling Tournament last Saturday at Cohoes High School.

Last Thursday, Sept 15, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo golf team had a match at home, the Sycamore Country Club, against Galway.

A woman who gave her whole hearted support to female athletics at Berne-Knox-Westerlo is to be honored posthumously at the second annual induction ceremony of the BKW High School Athletic Hall of Fame next Thursday.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls varsity volleyball battled to the end in the season opener in the Western Athletic Conference match at home on Sept. 8.

On May 9, students learned and saw the transit of Mercury as it passes the sun.
