Berne-Knox-Westerlo girls varsity volleyball battled to the end in the season opener in the Western Athletic Conference match at home on Sept. 8.

Battling through the breeze on Tuesday afternoon, April 12, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs took on Schoharie and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in track and field at home.

The Bulldogs' season ended with a squeaker in the semifinals at the Glens Falls Civic Center on Monday. Lake George scored in the last nine seconds to eek out a one-point win, 55 to 54.

Donald Basil Boyden, who grew up in Berne, was a quiet man with a strong faith who loved the simple things like dinners at home and outings with family. He died on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016, in Vermont, where he had married and raised a family. He was 75.

“He wasn’t a bragger or a big talker,” said his sister Belva Boyden.

Nine local wrestlers — five from Guilderland and four from Berne-Knox-Westerlo — wanted their tickets punched last weekend at the Glens Falls Civic Center to head to the Times Union Center in Albany for a state championship on Feb. 26 and 27. 

Berne-Knox-Westerlo's Zach Hilton joined the 1,000-point club this week.

Eight local high schools gathered at Berne-Knox-Westerlo for the inaugural Christmas basketball tournament in Berne on Monday and Tuesday. Host BKW took on Cairo-Durham on Monday evening and won, led by sophomore Slade Pulliam’s 20 points.
