Two Voorheesville teams are inching toward sectional championships — the boys’ volleyball and the girls’ basketball teams.

The boys’ volleyball team won a semifinal matchup on Monday night against Germantown, three sets to one: 25-21, 25-11, 21-25, 25-19. The Blackbirds then faced Chatham for the Class C championship on Wednesday evening at Rensselaer High School, winning in straight sets. Just missing a block, above, the tandem of Brian Hotopp and Alex Sleasman show their reach. Hotopp had two kills, four aces, seven digs, and 16 assists and Sleasman had 14 kills, one ace, one dig, and two blocks in Monday’s victory.

Olivia Barringer fights for the loose ball against two Bulldogs in the first half of Saturday’s game. Barringer had a team-high 18 points. The girls won a quarterfinal matchup against Cobleskill-Richmondville at Mechanicville High School, 61 to 48. It was the third meeting for the Blackbirds and Bulldogs.

Voorheesville advanced to the semifinals to face the second-seed, Mechanicville on Wednesday evening at Averill Park High School. In another upset, the birds won on Wednesday, 54 to 37.
