Two Voorheesville teams are inching toward sectional championships — the boys’ volleyball and the girls’ basketball teams.

Voorheesville's Emily Bablin was named Colonial Council Most Valuable Player.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds girls volleyball team battled Lake George in a five-set match in the Class C sectional semifinal on Wednesday Nov. 2.

Voorheesville Blackbirds won their second consecutive Class C sectional title in winter boys’ volleyball last Saturday by beating Chatham three sets to one — 25-9, 25-14, 25-27, and 25-20 — at Maple Hill High School.

Voorheesville's volleyball championship was the culmination of two years of progression.

The Blackbirds won three straight matches for the Section II Class C title against Greenville on Feb. 28.

Guilderland's successful volleyball season ended in the semifinals last Thursday after four competitive sets with Bethlehem.

The Guilderland girls' volleyball team won in three straight sets (25-11, 25-21, and 25-16) against Shaker on Oct. 28.  The boys won their matchup against Colonie on Friday to advance in the playoffs.

The Blackbirds won one set and lost three by the scores of 18-25, 18-25, 27-25, and 17-25 against Fonda.

Voorheesville is not the volleyball powerhouse it once was.
