Operation Safe Stop: Thursday, April 3, is a statewide crackdown on motorists passing stopped school buses. The Guilderland Police Department and Albany County Sheriff’s Office arranged this display on Route 20, at 155, to educate drivers about the law; as the sign says, violating the law can result in a maximum $400 fine and five license points. “When a school bus is stopped, all lanes of traffic must come to a complete stop when the red lights are on,” said Sergeant Michael Minette. “State Route 20 is the busiest road in the town of Guilderland, but the passing of stopped school buses occurs on all roads in the town.”
