Voorheesville Library Notes for Tuesday, December 24, 2019

Students are invited to drop in at the Voorheesville Public Library at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, to watch an afternoon matinee.

The Internet Movie Database says of this sequel: “It’s been five years since everything was awesome and the citizens are facing a huge new threat — Lego Duplo invaders from outer space, wrecking everything faster than they can rebuild!” 

The film is rated PG, and runs for 107 minutes. Refreshments will be served. No registration is required.

Bored? Games!

Bring friends and family along to the library at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, for games of all sorts. Board games, Switch videogames on the big screen, Minecraft on the laptops, Magic the Gathering battles and Pokemon card trading, or bring your own game board. There will be snacks! All ages, elementary school to adults; please register.

Bricks, Bits, and Bots

We’ve got Lego bricks for all ages and stages, toddlers to tweens. Everyone is welcome to drop in and enjoy building together from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Monday, Dec. 30. You can also program the Ozobots and build inventions with the littleBits. No registration necessary.

Holiday hours

The library will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and remain closed on Wednesday, January 1, in observance of The New Year. Regular hours will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. Happy New Year!

Giving Tree

Bring hope and warmth to others! Help the Voorheesville Public Library decorate our Giving Tree with handmade or store bought mittens, scarves, hats, and socks. The library will be accepting donations until  Jan. 13. All donations will be distributed to one or more local agencies that support children, families and adults who may not have the necessary winter outerwear.

Musical Story Time

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m., Matt Yeager from Music Together will be offering a special music filled morning of rhythm, song, dance, and instruments! Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program for children up to age 4 and their accompanying caregiver. Please register for this special storytime.

Beading Workshop

Learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The library provides tools and offers a variety of beads to choose from. This program runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7. You may arrive at any time during the workshop that fits your schedule. Adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register.

Family Winter STEAM

On Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., children ages 3 to kindergarten with caregiver will explore, play and learn at a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) program. Think cold, think cool, think chilly winter fun! Join Ms. Amy and Ms. Lisa for a snow-tastic day of winter themed STEAM.

Stations may include snowman shape matching, playing with snow-dough, making a neat optical illusion called a Thaumatrope, and as a special treat, ICE CREAM making! It's never too cold for that!  Please register.
