Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, October 2, 2019

School is back in session, which means Teen Time is back at the Voorheesville Public Library.

Students in grades 6 and up can take the bus to the library after school on Fridays, Oct. 11, 18, and 25, to be at the library from 3 to 5 p.m., to unwind, play games, use the laptops, or make something.

Space on the bus is limited; please register.

Soda Club

Please register at the Library for this seltzer taste test. From 7 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, we’ll be sampling several of the popular seltzer brands and flavors. Which brand does it best? Can you tell what flavor it is? Which one will be your new favorite? 

Costume Swap

Join us from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12 for an all-ages costume swap! Bring what you can no longer use, take what you need now. Please bring clean, gently used costumes and accessories. We will take donations starting Oct. 7, during regular Library hours. Anything left over will be donated. 

Second Sunday Film

The next Sunday film is a 2016 sci-fi comedy rated PG-13.

Internet Movie Database describes the film like this: “Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.”

The film runs for one hour and 56 minutes. Stop by the library at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. No registration is needed. Light refreshments will be served.

Beading Workshop

Learn easy beading techniques from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at the Library. The library provides tools and offers a variety of beads to choose from, or you are welcome to bring your own supplies and projects along. 

Check out our beading books and magazines for inspiration. You may arrive at any time during the workshop that fits your schedule. Adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register.

Uncluttering

Please register for this hour long organizational program, hosted by Uncluttered Albany, LLC. On Thursday, Oct. 17, from 7 to 8 p.m., you will learn how to begin the uncluttering process, as well as some organizational and folding techniques. 

Locked in the Library: Looking for Alaska

Students in grades 9 and up, please register and join us from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, for the novel “Looking for Alaska” by John Green. “First drink. First prank. First friend. First love. Last words.” Get a copy, read up, and join us to discuss before the debut of the Hulu adaptation. Dinner will be served. 

“Le Voyage Dans​ La Lune Performances”

Join us from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, for the winning performances for our first ever Silent Film Score Challenge.

Local bands were challenged to compose an original score to George Melies’s 1902 silent film “Le Voyage Dans la Lune” “(A Trip to the Moon”). Come support and enjoy some local talent. 

Columbus Day hours

In observance of Columbus Day, the library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14.
