Voorheesville Library Notes for Tuesday, September 20, 2022

Thank you to the volunteers, bakers, and shoppers who participated in the Friends Annual Book Sale this year. The Friends of the Library support so many important programs at the library, and this book sale helps them to do that. Thank you everyone!

Great Give Back

This year, the library will be supporting “Sleep in Heavenly Peace” for our community wide donation drive. SHP is a volunteer organization that builds beds for kids (ages 3 to 17) who are sleeping on the floor.

From Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, the library will be collecting new (in original packaging) twin sheet sets, comforters, and pillows. Children’s or teen-themes are appropriate, as are solid colors. In addition, we’ll also be collecting funds to build beds. For more ways to be involved, visit www.shpbeds.org. Thank you in advance, for your generosity.

Teen Time

Students in grades 6 and up are invited to register for this after school program for 3 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23. Come to the library to unwind and play games with your friends. We have Switch games on the big screen, or tabletop games. You can craft or sew or use the maker equipment. Snacks are provided.

Family Walk

Families with children in grades 2-7 are encouraged to register for this family hike, 10:30 a.m.,  Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Nature Center, Thacher Park.. We’ll be joining Nature Center educators to learn more about the native mammals living around us, as well as setting up trail cameras to monitor their movements and habits. Rain date is Saturday, Oct.1.

Preschool Story Time

It is such a beautiful time of the year, here in upstate New York. The air turns cool and the leaves change colors. Children ages 2 to 5, with caregiver are invited to join us at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, for an interactive Fabulous Fall storytime. Our storytimes always emphasize early literacy, and include an art activity that can be done at the library or completed at home. No registration needed.

Trustees meet

The September board of trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. in the library community room. Members of the public are always welcome!

Library Tots

Babies ages 0 to 30 months, with caregiver are welcome to join Miss Lisa at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 29 for Library Tots. We get together in the community room for a fun program featuring songs, fingerplays, body movement, felt board stories, and of course, books! No registration needed.

Repair Café

Join us at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 1, at Swift Road Wallace Park to watch and learn how to repair your basic household items from skilled repair coaches. There is a limit of 2 items per household to be repaired, and not all items may be repairable. Items include electronics, small appliances, textiles, bikes, wooden furniture, toys, jewelry. This is a free event, but new bicycle parts will incur their retail fee.
