Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, September 16, 2021

The Friends of the Library annual Fall Book Sale will be held from Sept. 24 to 26.

Friday, Sept. 24, from noon to 7 p.m. is only for Friends members. Memberships are available for as little as $10 at the door.

The doors open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25. There will be a bake sale as well as raffle tickets available for purchase for various baskets.

The raffle drawing will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday. You do not need to be present to win.

Sunday, Sept. 26, is special-deals day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  

Banned Books Week

Read Out

The New York Civil Liberties Union will join the Voorheesville Public Library during National Banned Books Week to celebrate our constitutional right to read what we want. A virtual “Read Out” will feature regional notables — actors, writers, politicians, poets, and activists of all types — reading from their favorite books that have, at one time or another, been banned or challenged in the United States. Register now to receive the link for this virtual event, scheduled for 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 28. 

Historic Voorheesville

Walking Tour

Celebrate Voorheesville’s fascinating past with village history guide Dennis Ulion. This two-hour walking tour will begin at St. Matthew’s Church at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, and will take us to locations throughout the village.

The tour will end back at St. Matthew’s around 11:30 a.m. Registration is required, and limited to 10 people. Attendees must follow all current COVID safety guidelines. The rain date is Monday, Sept. 27, at the same time and location. If you are driving to meet us, please park across the street from St. Matthew’s rectory house.

Selling on Etsy

Etsy is an online marketplace focused on the unique, vintage, and creative. Join us at  6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, to learn the basics of setting up a shop and creating listings that will stand out from the competition. Register online. 

Thacher Park

History Walk

Please register online to join a library nature walk at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, at the Thacher Park Visitor Center. Join Nature Center guides for this one-hour, 0ne-mile walk along the escarpment of Thacher Park. This tour is suitable for adults and seniors, with mild walking conditions. Please park and meet us at the Thacher Park Visitor Center. Weather permitting.

Family Bicycling Day

This community-wide event will start at noon on Sunday, Oct. 3, and will last throughout the day. There will be a block party complete with music, food, fire trucks, a bounce house, farm animals, bicycle skills class, as well as much, much more. All activities will be on a closed bicycle riding loop. Come join the fun! Rain Date is Sunday, Oct. 10. 

Library hours

The library is now open Monday through Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Curbside pickup is available during all open library hours. Masks are required of all visitors over the age of 2, regardless of vaccination status.
