Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, July 13, 2022

There are still a few spots open to join us at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, July 16, and take a trip down memory lane with local history guide Dennis Ulion. Learn about how Voorheesville became Voorheesville, and how it became what it is today. Please register. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as this walk is 2.2 miles and may take over two hours. Subject to rain cancellation.

Preschool story time

There’s something fishy going on at the next story time. Join us at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, to find out more about fish. There is no registration needed, and all children  ages  2 - 5 w/caregiver are welcome to join in the fun! 

Summer Reading Bingo

From July 1 thru Aug. 26, patrons of all ages can play summer reading BINGO. Pick up a new game card at the library, or print one out from the website, every 2 weeks. Complete 2 lines in any direction to win a bookmark, pin or magnet. Complete the entire card to pick a prize from the prize box. No registration needed. 

Writing workshop

with Veera Hiranandani

Are you a budding writer interested in being inspired and learning techniques from an award-winning author? Veera Hiranandani will join us via Zoom for a thought-provoking writing exercise sure to get those creative juices flowing! The Library will be partnering with the Cole Summer Writers Institute for this author-led portion of the week-long workshop.

Copies of Hiranandani's books will be provided to all registrants thanks to the generosity of the Friends of the Library, and the author's presentation is funded by a Voorheesville Community and School Foundation mini grant. This program will be held at the Clayton A. Bouton High School at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 20. For students entering grades 6 and up. Please register on the library event calendar.

the Pine Bush

Did you know that the Albany Pine Bush is a globally rare, nationally significant inland pine barrens? Join us at the Albany Pine Bush Discovery Center at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 21, as experts will guide us along a 1 mile hike through the dunes. Please register each person individually. This program is subject to rain cancellation. Parking is free.

display case

Artist Barbara Meilinger is displaying her quilts this month in our hall gallery. Barbara is an extremely talented artist and her quilts are beyond wonderful. When you visit us next, please leave yourself a few extra minutes to meander through and enjoy her incredible skills.

As usual, our July/August display case is filled with the ever popular Summer Reading Program prize packages. There are some great prizes this year. Which prize package do your kids want? We also have an “I Spy” display on the back table, for your young ones to play and enjoy the SRP theme “Oceans of Possibilities”.
