Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, June 23, 2021

There are still some openings for a few July summer reading programs. To receive more information about a particular program, or to register, check out our online calendar at www.voorpl.org.

National Sunglasses Day

Family Story Time

Children ages 2 to 6, with a caregiver, can register online and join the fun as we read books, sing songs, and participate in "shady" activities on Monday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m., at Wallace Park on Swift Road. Please wear your best pair of shades! Take-and-make kits will be available after the program for fun at home activities. Due to safety protocols, no one will be admitted without registering. Please bring a blanket and/or chairs for your family.

 Spin a Wooly Tale

The tale of humans and sheep goes back over 12,000 years. Students in grades 3 thru 6 are invited to join us as we learn more about these beautiful animals and how their fleece is processed to become your favorite sweater. These classes will be held at the pavilion area in Wallace Park on Swift Rd, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Students should plan to attend all 3 sessions: July 1, 8 and 22. Please register on the July 1 calendar entry for all three sessions. Registration is limited and attendees must register and follow all Covid safety guidelines. More detailed guidelines and instructions will be available to those who register.

Baby birds

A bird is a bird, except when it’s a nestling, hatchling, or fledgling. Preschoolers ages 3 to 5, with a caregiver, will learn about baby birds through stories, songs, movement and an art activity on Monday, July 12, at 10 a.m., at Wallace Park. Each child will create their own baby birds in a nest to take home with them. Registration is limited and attendees must register and follow all Covid safety guidelines. More detailed guidelines and instructions will be available to those who register.

Creativity Lab

Students in grades 6 through 9 can pick up a project kit, follow or view the project instructions online, and get creative! Experiment with wind after decorating your bird kite or with electric motors by assembling an air racer. Get crafty and imaginative with critter craft kits and Fantastic Creature notebooks. Some household supplies and tools may be needed. Registrants can pick up kits beginning at 11 a.m.: Bird Kites – Wednesday, June 30; Air Racers-Wed., July 14; Critter Crafts – Wednesday, July 28; and Fantastic Creatures Notebook – Wednesday, Aug. 11. Register separately for the activities that appeal most to you.
