Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, June 1, 2022

Join us for a free concert in the library community room, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 9. The Wright-Quigley Duo will perform works for flute and guitar written by composers from the 19th Century up to the present day, including works by Giuliani, Ibert, Pujol, and more.

This performance is sponsored by the Start UP New York grant, administered by the Arts Center of the Capital Region and the Jim Clark Community Performance Fund and the Albany Musicians Association, Local 14, AFM. No registration needed.

Bicycling Day

The library is happy to be partnering with the Voorheesville Family Bicycling Day community wide event on Sunday, June 5. New additions for this year are group rides, led by an experienced guide. There are three different groups that you can sign up with. Check them out on our event calendar, and register today. 

And be sure to join the fun with a safe day of bicycling and family-friendly activities, including a bounce house, storytime, arts and crafts, pony rides and farm animals to pet. Don’t miss out on this free afternoon of fun.No registration needed.

Beginning birding

Join Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center guides on Tuesday, June 14 at 9 a.m., for this one hour beginner’s lesson on birding. This tour is suitable for adults and seniors. Subject to cancellation due to weather. Meet at Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center, located at 87 Nature Center Way, Voorheesville NY 12180. Please register. 

Walking tour

with village historian

Join Voorheesville Village Historian, Dennis Sullivan, at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 18, and see our village streets as never before. This walking tour will begin at the Elementary School, and conclude with refreshments at the Rail Trail pavilion on Grove St. Individual registration is required.

A Community Conversation

Please join us, via Zoom, for a free community conversation with Dr. Alice Green, executive director of the Center for Law and Justice, and Paul Grondahl, director of the New York State Writers Institute, at 7 p.m., Monday, June 20.

We will be discussing historic and continuing challenges in our community, and share the work she is currently doing and how community members can help. This program is presented in collaboration with the Center for Law and Justice and the New York State Writers Institute and is provided by the Upper Hudson Library System.

Bead Creative

If you are interested in learning beading techniques, this is where you should start. Teens and adults are invited to register for this 2 p.m. event on Wednesday, June 22. You can start with an easy project, get help from experts, and use our supplies and tools. Your only investment is your time. 

Holiday hours

The library will be closed Sunday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth.
