Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, May 26, 2021

No registration is needed for Virtual Preschool Story Time, and the video link will be available on the library website and social media sites, to view at your convenience. Families of preschoolers can pick up a free take-and-make bag at the library each week, from Tuesday through Saturday. The bag will include the story-time thematic art activity of the week.

Check out some of these storytime themes:

— Visit a Restaurant on Tuesday, June 1, at 10 a.m.; and

— Summertime Celebration – Tuesday, June 8, at 10 a.m.

National Sunglasses Day

Family Story Time

Please wear your best pair of shades when you join the fun as we read books, sing songs, and participate in "shady" activities. Take-and-make kits will be available after the program for fun at home activities. Intended for children 2 ½ to 6 with families.

This family story time will be held at the back pavilion at Wallace Park, on Monday, June 28, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Registration is required and limited. Please bring a blanket and/or chairs for your family.

Maker Monday

for Grown-Ups

Join the Maker Club for grown-ups and pick up one project kit each month. Take home your project and enjoy some unplugged creativity time. Common household supplies not included. Please register every month for this fun and relaxing program. Pick up kits at your convenience.

Book talk

These are our June book-discussion dates:

— Fiction Book Discussion – Wednesday, June 2, at 7 p.m.: “Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett;

— Graphic Novel Book Discussion – Tuesday, June 8, at 10 a.m.: “March, Book 1” by John Lewis; and

— Books & Beyond – Wednesday, June 16, at 11 a.m.: “Vanishing Half “by Brit Bennett.

Please register online each month to receive the private meeting link for any of these virtual book discussions. Limited copies of the book are available for $5, compliments of the Friends of the Library. Library copies will also be available for checkout and downloadable ebook and audiobook versions are on Overdrive.

Holiday hours

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, the Library will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 28 and will open again on Tuesday, June 1.

Encore! Books

The Friends of the Library used-book store is back, and busier than ever. Tentative hours are Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to  6 p.m., and Thursdays, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Please check the FOL Facebook page for updates and current covid protocols. Donations are limited to 2 boxes or bags per visit, and will be vetted at drop off area.

Juneteenth

is Freedom Day!

Juneteenth is short for June 19th, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and is also known as Freedom Day. Come join Mrs. Brown and Miss Lisa at Hotaling Park at 2p.m., Wednesday, June 23, as they share some Juneteenth stories, activities, and songs that honor and celebrate Freedom Day!

Intended for children ages 5 to 8, with a caregiver. Registration is required and limited, and all attendees must follow current covid guidelines. Please bring a blanket and/or chairs for your family. Rain date is Thursday, June 24.
