Voorheesville Library Notes for Friday, May 18, 2018

Every month, the Voorheesville Public Library holds a beading workshop, where you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple jewelry, fix a favorite piece, or use some of your old pieces to make a new piece.

This month, we will meet on Thursday, May 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. There is a small materials fee depending on which project you choose. Stop by anytime during the workshop that fits your schedule.

Make a quilt

Join us for a weekend program to make a Trip Around the World quilt. Local quilter Patsy Quimby will be here from 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, and 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, to teach the pattern.

The materials list will be emailed electronically or available at the library for pickup upon signup. Bring your lunch for Saturday; beverages will be offered. Please sign up for this two-day program at the May 19 calendar registration. You must be able to attend both days to register for this class.

Password workshop

Don’t settle for passwords like “123456.” In this class we will discuss the basics of computer security and generate strong, unique passwords using different methods. Then we will look at tools for storing and accessing them on demand across multiple devices.

Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the library’s laptops. Please register for either the 11 a.m. or the 6 p.m. session on Monday, May 21.

Holiday hours

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, the library will be closed on Saturday, May 26; Sunday, May 27; and Monday, May 28. The library will open on Tuesday, May 29, at 9:30 am.

Browse, buy, and sell with Ebay

Get started buying and selling on eBay. Learn how to list items for sale, and place your own bids on all kinds of items. Join instructor Sarah McFadden at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, as she walks you through how to create and manage an account.

This program is supported by funds from the New York State Library’s Adult Literacy Library Services Program, in partnership with the Capital Region Workforce Development Board and ACCES-VR.

Paint tiles

Make a unique, freeform decorative ceramic tile painting using the hot new medium of alcohol inks. On Saturday, June 2, from 10:30 p.m. to noon, artist Lydia Lynch will demonstrate basic application techniques and describe how different effects can be achieved.

This is a fun and easy art form that does not require any artistic ability. You will be amazed at the results. All materials will be supplied, including a small easel to display your creation. It is suggested that you wear an old shirt, apron, or smock. Adults and teens age 12 and older are welcome, please register.
