Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, May 7, 2020

Do you love your rescue pet?

Of course you do!

Would you like the chance to have your rescue pet highlighted in an upcoming art show at the Voorheesville Public Library? Megan Viscio, local artist and teacher, will be selecting winners, whose pets will be made into mini-sculptures and featured in her art show.

To enter the contest, provide a short, heartwarming write-up about your rescue pet or rescue experience along with several photographs from which Megan will work. The winners will get to keep the mini-sculptures after the show.

If you are interested or if you need more information, contact Megan at or Gail Brown at . Because the library is presently closed due to COVID-19, the art show may become virtual or it will wait until the library can safely open to offer public gatherings. Visit Megan’s artwork at thestudiohouse.blog.

Book talk

Library book discussions are going digital! Adult readers should join the Voorpl Book Group on Facebook. There we will host various formal book discussions and informal chatter about book-related topics. Request to join this closed group and get accepted by VPL to get the private links to the discussion meetings.

“Varina” by Charles Frazier will be discussed at the Books & Beyond Facebook meeting on Wednesday, May 20, at 11 a.m. The ebook and downloadable audiobook are available on Hoopla with your library card.

The Talk & Taste Cookbook Group will meet on Thursday, May 28, at 6 p.m. to discuss “Cook Like a Pro” by Ina Garten and any recipes found on her Barefoot Contessa website.

The Middle School Book Club will be discussing “Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus” by Dusti Bowling on Wednesday, May 13, at 2:30 p.m. This meeting will be conducted in Ms. Menetti’s Middle School Library Google Classroom. Students should look there for information about this co-sponsored event.

Email the librarians at with any questions about book clubs, registration, or for help accessing digital services. Librarians will be available to answer your emails during our regular business hours.

Summer Adventure

Imagine Your Story at the Voorheesville Public Library! We are excited to offer a summer reading program where we will read, create, and learn together as individuals, families, and as a community. We are imagining something entirely new for the summer of 2020. Be on the lookout as we unveil this summer’s program very soon. Check the library’s website for up-to-date details.

Reusable bags

The Friends of the Voorheesville Library has been selected to receive funds in May from reusable bag purchases at the Voorheesville Hannaford. If you are out and about doing your grocery shopping at our local Hannaford, please consider purchasing a reusable bag to help support the Friends of the Voorheesville Library. If you don’t plan to be out grocery shopping, please consider a direct donation to your local Friends of the Library.
