Mini Books with Megan Viscio: There are still a few spots available for this miniature books program. Students in grades 3 to 7 are invited to join local artist and educator Megan Viscio, at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 5, and dive into the world of miniatures!

Learn different techniques and methods to create your own collection of mini books. We will also make a bookshelf, perfect for displaying your tiny treasures. All supplies provided. Please register. 

Encore!

Book Shed 

The Friends of the Library book shed, Encore! Books is scheduled to open their 2023 season at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 2. All hours are weather and volunteer contingent, so please call ahead to be sure they are open. 

Summer mocktails 

Join us at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 2, to learn how to create tasty mocktails for your summer parties. Whether your guests are young, or designated drivers, or skipping alcoholic drinks for health reasons, you can provide colorful, fun alternatives for their enjoyment! Participants will make and take home a flavor concentrate with drink recipes. Open to adults, please register. 

Teen Time:

Unplugged 

Students in grade 6 and up are invited to come to the library to unwind, play geeky games, or make something without using screens at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 5. During this unplugged Teen Time, we will make our own snacks, tackle a Breakout challenge, and play group games like Throw Throw Burrito, or Really Loud Librarians. Please register. 

Unplugged Palooza

Family Fun Night 

Children of all ages, tweens, teens, and families are invited to unplug during this fabulously fun Screen-Free Week event, taking place at Wallace Park on Swift Road. Join friends and families at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, as we play games, read books, explore the StoryWalk®, participate in hands-on STEAM activities, and enjoy companionship and conversation.

Many community organizations and volunteers have partnered to create and plan a spectacular screen-free event. New Scotland Kiwanis will be sponsoring a barbecue. The Emack & Bolio's Ice Cream truck will be serving up frozen treats for purchase. Join us for an evening of screen-free joy, laughter and fun!  No registration required.

— Fiction Book Discussion: “Of Women and Salt” by Gabriella Garcia 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 3 and/or 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 17;

— Nonfiction Book Discussion: “The Worth of Water” by Gary White and Matt Damon, 6:30 p.m., Monday, May 8;

— Cookbook Club: “Cook’s Illustrated All — Time Best Brunch”, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 11;

—  Middle School Book Club: “The Disaster Days” by Rebecca Behrens, 10:40 a.m., Thursday, May 18 at Voorheesville’s high school library.

All discussions will be held in the library community room, unless otherwise stated. Please register online each month for any of the book discussions. Limited copies of some titles are available for $5, compliments of the Friends of the Library. Library copies will also be available for checkout and downloadable ebook and audiobook versions are on Overdrive.
