Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, April 12, 2023

“Chivalry” by Neil Gaiman and Colleen Doran will be discussed at the Voorheesville at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.

Start your Library Expedition with activities for tweens, teens, and adults. Join us from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday and/or Sunday, April 15 and 16. Create a mini work of art, make a paper circuit bookmark, spin the trivia wheel, and snap a picture at the train photo booth. While you’re here, pick up the official Library Expedition map and continue your journey to visit the rest of the 36 libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System this spring and summer.

Electric Race Cars 

Students in grades 5 – 12 are invited to register online to build your own electric race car! Join us at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, April 14 to learn how to adjust the compound gears and pulleys to increase your car's speed.  

STEAM Family

Story Time 

There are still a few spots left for children ages 3 to second grade w/caregiver and families to register for this awesome Full STEAM Ahead! storytime. Join us at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 15 as we celebrate the 2023 Library Expedition with a train themed storytime and a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math activity stations, including a train inspired photo booth.

April book talks

We’ll be discussing these books in April:

— Fiction Book Discussion: “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 19; and

— Graphic Novel Book Discussion: “Chivalry” by Neil Gaiman and Colleen Doran, 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 26.

All discussions will be held in the library community room, unless otherwise stated. Please register online each month for any of the book discussions. Limited copies of some titles are available for $5, compliments of the Friends of the Library. Library copies will also be available for checkout and downloadable ebook and audiobook versions are on Overdrive.

Voorheesville

History Walk 

Take a trip down memory lane with local history guide Dennis Ulion at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, April 22. Learn about how Voorheesville became what it is today. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes, as this walk may take over 2 hours. We will meet at St. Matthew's overflow parking lot. Please register. Subject to rain cancellation. 

Celebrate Earth Day

with Tinkergarten 

What better way to celebrate the Earth than with a birthday party! Join local Tinkergarten leader Mary Duryea at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, for a mixed-age, play-based learning session.  We’ll inspire creative mess-making, pretend play, and a genuine connection to and appreciation for our planet. Come prepared to get messy! For ages 2-8 with a caregiver. Please register. This program will be held at Wallace Park, Swift Rd.
