Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, April 4, 2019

Time to dust out those hidden folders, delete old programs, and empty the trash (or recycling bin). Stop by the Voorheesville Public Library one of the Monday afternoons in April, from 1 to 2 p.m., to clean up and speed up your digital devices with some routine maintenance.

April 8 is for Android phones and tablets, and April 15 is for iOS. Participants should bring their own devices. Please register.

Beading workshop

On Monday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. The library provides tools and offers a variety of beads to choose from, or you are welcome to bring your own supplies and projects along.

Check out our beading books and magazines for inspiration. You may arrive at any time during the workshop that fits your schedule. The workshop is for adults and teens ages 14 and up. Please register, and there will be a small materials fee depending on which projects you choose.

Remember the Holocaust

“A Train Near Magdeburg: A Teacher’s Journey into the Holocaust and the Reuniting of the Survivors and Liberators, 70 years on.”

Award-winning teacher and historian Matthew Rozell will give a presentation about the extraordinary story behind an iconic 1945 photograph, which records the whole incredible story about Holocaust survivors left to die on a train in Nazi Germany and the American soldiers that liberated them.

Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, for this incredible program. Matthew Rozell’s books will be available for purchase and signing. No registration needed.

Cradle of the Union:  Albany History Uncovered

Author Erik Schlimmer will present his book and research on Albany street name history at 6 p.m., on Thursday, April 11. The city of Albany has 800 streets, and thus as many street names.

In this program, author Erik Schlimmer takes audiences on a virtual tour of street names, weaving among war heroes, criminals, founding fathers, and Dutch settlers. Please register.

Pilates Mat Class

Join us at 10:15 a.m., on Saturday, April 13, for this free class will be designed for beginners; no Pilates experience is required. The instructor, Shannon McConnell, is a certified Pilates Mat instructor with the Exercise Safety Association and has been teaching classes for 10 years.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or towel. The class is for people 14 and older. Please register.

Trustee nominating petitions available

Nominating petitions are now available for Voorheesville residents interested in running for an open seat on the library board. Petitions may be obtained at the library during regular library hours.

Snow delays

If the Voorheesville schools are delayed by two hours due to weather, all morning youth programs will be canceled. If school is canceled, all youth programs for the day are canceled. Call to check on adult afternoon or evening programs.
