Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, February 21, 2019

For the last 20 years, longtime artist Lisa Fasulo has taught various art media and given lessons to students of all ages. She currently owns Michelangelo’s Paint Place in Guilderland, a fun paint studio where people come to paint and craft together.

Join Lisa from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, Feb. 22, for step-by-step instructions to complete a professional work of animal-themed art on canvas.

All levels are welcome; you don’t have to be an “artist,” because with the stencil method, everyone can do it! This program is for kids in second to seventh grade. Space is limited. Please register.

Creativity Lab: Sewing Sock Creatures

Join us from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22 to turn silly socks into a sock creature! No sewing skills required and all materials provided, just bring your creativity. Grades 5 and up, please register.

Saving Slater

What is the story of the “USS Slater” and why was she chosen to become the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum?

Join Slater volunteer, Art Dott, from 2 to 3 p.m., on Sunday, Feb. 24, as he shares exciting stories about the history of Destroyer Escorts, SLATER’S involvement in World War II, her service in the Greek Navy, and her restoration, transforming her into a world class museum.

You will get a first-hand look at the hard work that goes into keeping the “Old Girl” afloat. For ages 10 through adult. Please register.

Password workshop

Don’t settle for ineffective passwords. Passwords keep your information safe, so the stronger the password, the stronger your security.

Join our class on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., or 6 to 7 p.m., as we discuss the basics of computer security and generate strong, unique passwords using different methods. Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the library’s laptops. Please register for one session.

Healthy You, Healthy Earth

Daily, we witness Planet Earth growing increasingly warm and increasingly foreign to us. Bringing together research about climate change with research about physical and mental health and well-being, this talk offers a doorway into a win/win solution. Thursday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Locked in the Library!

“Dumplin’” by Julie Murphy is a #1 New York Times bestseller and feel-good YA novel about Willowdean Dixon, the fearless, funny, and totally unforgettable heroine who takes on her small town’s beauty pageant.

Pick up a copy, and invite a friend to join you for this after-hours teen book club on Friday, March 1 at 6 p.m. Dinner will be served. For grades 9 and up; please register.
