Voorheesville Library Notes for Wednesday, January 20, 2021

There are a few spaces left for all you crafters to grab your latest project, and join fellow crafters at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, in a virtual chat. We will gather for casual conversation about what we are working on, and anything else that strikes our fancy. Please register online to receive the meeting link.

Virtual Story Time

No registration is needed, and the video link will be available on the library website, to view at your convenience. Families of preschoolers can pick up a take-and-make bag at the library each week, from Tuesday through Saturday.

The bag will include the story-time thematic art activity of the week. Check out some of these storytime themes:

— Hooray for Hats! Available beginning Jan. 26;

— What Did the Groundhog Say? Available beginning Feb. 2; and

— Happy Valentine’s Day! Available beginning Feb. 9.

Family Story Time

Bring the library to your child. This year, 2021, is the 10th anniversary of Take Your Child to the Library Day and we will be doing it a little bit differently this year!

Do you love your library? We love that you do!

Join Miss Lisa and Mrs. Brown live on Zoom on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10:30 to 11 a.m., to celebrate all that’s great about the library through shared stories, songs, activities, and interactive props. You may pick up your fun activity bag during curbside hours, starting Feb. 8.

This bag will include craft supplies, paper hearts for a special project, fun props, and surprise activities and prizes.

This event is for kids ages 3 to 8 and their families.  Please register online for your Zoom link and to request your bag.

Creativity Lab

Pick up your ping-pong ball launcher kit, beginning Friday, Feb. 12, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.. You can build your own launcher to send ping pong balls flying, marking the trajectory and distance of your shots and targets.

Redesign your launcher with greater accuracy and precision through the optional labs and graphing sheets, then compete in exciting design challenges. Change one variable at a time, utilizing scientific and engineering methods to successfully hit targets.

Use recycling bin materials or extra components to build a kicker, plunger, trebuchet, or slingshot – your imagination is the limit! Attend the optional online meetup on Friday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. to show off your launcher and shot accuracy. For grades 6 and up, please register.

In-house browsing

A limited number of appointments are available Monday through Saturday to browse for and check out materials or computer use. Please call Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 518-765-2791 to schedule your appointment.
