Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, January 17, 2019

Michael Haneke, an Austrian film director, will be featured on Jan. 23 as part of Dennis Sullivan’s Second Annual Film Festival at the Voorheesville Public Library.

Take the bus to the library after school on Friday, Jan. 18, to unwind, play games, or make something. Use SimCity, Scratch, the Leap Motion, or Minecraft on our laptops. Teach yourself Tinkercad or Sculptris, invent something with the littleBits electronics kits, or program the Ozobots.  We have Sticker Circuits, paper, fabric and craft supplies available if you want to get creative. Open to students in grade 6 and up. Space on the bus route is limited, please register.

Winter Film Festival

Dennis Sullivan will be our host for the 2nd Annual Winter Film Festival. Mark your calendars for Director Michael Haneke, January 23; Director Federico Fellini, January 30; and Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, February 13. All programs will start at 6:00pm, with discussion and insights. Light refreshments will be served. Check the library calendar or call for film title. No registration needed.

Bricks, Bits, & Bots for All Ages

We’ve got LEGO bricks for all ages and stages, toddlers to tweens, everyone is welcome! Drop in anytime between 10:30 a.m. and noon on Monday, Jan. 21 and enjoy building together. You can also program the Ozobots or build an invention with the littleBits. No registration necessary.

Holiday

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan.  21.

3-D Printing

The 3D printer is warmed up and ready to go! Stop by from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 to learn the basics of our Lulzbot Mini 2, get started with TinkerCad, troubleshoot a tricky build, or anything else 3D Print related.

Talk & Taste Cookbook Group

Join us on our newest foodie journey. Every other month, we will talk and taste our way through ethnic foods, specialty methods and cuisines, and just plain good cooking. Read the latest choice, try out the recipes, and bring a dish for everyone to sample on discussion night. Experienced foodies and newbies are welcome. A limited number of books are available to purchase for $5 or you can check out a library copy. Our January cookbook choice is “The Smitten Kitchen Every Day” by Deb Perelman. Join us at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, and don’t forget your sample dish. Please register.

Teen Care for Shelter Animals

Spend your Friday afternoon off making some easy projects to comfort and amuse shelter animals. From noon to 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, we’ll order pizza for lunch, or you can bring your own. Participants earn two and a half hours of Community Service time. This program is open to grade 7 and up, please register.

Snow Delays: If the Voorheesville Schools are delayed by two hours due to weather, all morning youth programs will be cancelled. If school is cancelled, all youth programs for the day are cancelled. Call to check on adult afternoon or evening programs.
