Middleburgh Library Notes for Thursday, May 3, 2018

On May 8 at 10:45 a.m. get ready to move in this interactive storytime designed especially for children up to age 5 and their caregivers. We'll read books, sing songs, recite fingerplays, dance and watch a short movie based on a weekly theme. No registration required.

Budget vote

On May 8 from noon to 8 p.m. there will be a Library Budget Vote in the library’s community room. Come out and vote yes for our library to continue its service to you.

Mahjong Mania

On May 8 at 1 p.m. come and enjoy Mahjong Mania. Every Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. a spirited group of people get together in the Community Room to play Mahjong. Don't know how to play? No problem! They will teach you how. No registration required.

Insight Meditation

On May 8 at 5:15 p.m. join us for Insight Meditation. What do you want most deeply? Seeing your life calmly and clearly helps answer this.  Insight Meditation is a simple way to steady your mind, stop wandering in day-dreams, and end the suffering of troubling thoughts. Our group is a place to sit quietly in safety, supported by others; to allow understanding and compassion to arise; to encourage loving-kindness and patience. We welcome those with no experience to advanced mediators', teens to seniors.  give it a try. No registration is required. There is no fee. All are welcome.

Wednesday Matinee

On May 9 at 1 p.m. come to the library for a showing of  "Phantom Thread" (R) with free popcorn. Set in the glamour of 1950s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock and his sister Cyril  are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants, and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock's life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma, who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love.

Tai Chi

From 10 to 11 a.m. on May 10, 17, 24 join us for an Introduction to Tai Chi for Health & Wellness - (Arthritis, Energy, & Diabetes). A time-tested and complete movement art that helps an individual focus on health and well-being. Tai Chi has been shown to improve strength and suppleness, balance, and immune function.  It lowers stress levels and helps the individual manage pain or problems like high blood pressure and arthritis. Tai chi benefits people at all ages and fitness levels. While it is accessible to people who are elderly or inactive, it has the depth to challenge the athletic, and broaden the abilities of either. It cultivates mental focus and relaxation, both essential for personal wellness and productivity.

Knitting Circle

On May 10 at 7 p.m. the friendly ladies (men are welcome, but we haven't seen any yet!) knit and crochet, embroider and quilt, and more. You can learn a new skill here or share your own special talents with others- or just craft in the company of friends. Drop in anytime! No registration is required

Cookbook club

On May 12 at 2 p.m. join us for Cooking by the Vegan Book the "Book to be announced". We pick the cookbook, you pick and make the recipe!

How the cookbook club works; Every month, a cookbook will be selected and will be at the circulation desk, for you to look at and we will print up the recipe of your choice.  Sign up online or at the circulation desk, let us know what you're cooking so we don't have duplicates. Registration is required.

Anniversary party

On May 19 at 2 p.m. join us for the Middleburgh Library Anniversary Party Celebration. We're taking time out to celebrate the library's 15 years on Main Street. Join us for a special party with food, music and fun!
