Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, December 29, 2021

The Guilderland Public Library is offering a snow-themed preschool activity kit containing engaging activities and reading suggestions. After registering on the events calendar at guilderlandlibrary.org, these kits may be picked up at the library from Jan. 4 to 9.

The Guilderland Public Library will close at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Friday, Dec. 31. We will be closed on New Year’s Day, Saturday, Jan. 1. We extend our best wishes for the new year ahead!

Tech and résumé help

Our trusty computer coach, Robin, is ready to help you get the most out of your Apple device.  She can also assist with the Learning Express tool on our website to help you craft a winning résumé.  Sign up on the events tab of our website for your one-on-one virtual hour-long appointment Monday, Jan. 3, 10, 24, or 31 at 6:30 p.m.

Board vacancies

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees is looking to fill two short-term vacancies through June 2022. Interested individuals who are United States residents, Guilderland Central School District residents, and at least 18 years old are invited to submit, by Jan. 10, a résumé and a brief statement of interest to: nominating-committee@guilderlandlibrary.org.

Intuitive eating

Tired of the January dieting ritual?  Looking for a fresh and sustainable approach to healthy nutrition?  Registered Dietitian Mariel Baron provides the knowledge and inspiration needed to ditch restrictive diets and ultimately find freedom through a five-part virtual program entitled “Intro to Intuitive Eating:  A Non-Diet Approach” starting Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.

Live virtual story time

Meet us via Zoom for a lively interactive storytime on Thursday,  Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m., ideal for children ages infant-age 5. We’ll read books, sing songs and enjoy a fun time together!  Please register online for the link.  We also read picture books to viewers every Friday on our YouTube channel.

Virtual yoga

Whether you’re brand-new or experienced with yoga, you’re welcome to join our gentle virtual yoga classes on Thursday, Jan. 13 and 27 at 6:30 p.m., suitable for all skill levels. Sessions will include breathing techniques and physical poses to stretch and strengthen the body gradually, concluding with a stress-melting rest and meditation period. Memoirs in the Morning

We’re reading “Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir of a Life Interrupted” by Suleika Jaouad in advance of our next online meetup on Wednesday,  Jan. 19 at 10:30 a.m. This title is available in print and digitally on Overdrive (eBook & audiobook).

Car-charging stations

Got an EV or a hybrid vehicle? Use one of our four Level Two charging stations in the main parking lot! We’re currently charging a cost-recovery fee of 16 cents per kilowatt hour. The library makes no profit on these stations, but does pass our electric cost on to users. To get started, simply scan the QR code with your smartphone.

Browsing hours

Masks are required for patrons ages 2 and up. GPL policies based on current COVID conditions are outlined in our Pandemic Operations Plan, accessible on our website. Current hours are: Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m; Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
