Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, December 22, 2021

On a statewide listening tour at libraries, from left, state Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre (a Democrat representing District 11 in Suffolk County), state Senator Sean Ryan (a Democrat from Buffalo who chairs the senate’s Committee on Libraries, representing District 60), and State Senator Michelle Hinchey (a Democrat representing District 46, which includes Guilderland) stopped at the Guilderland Public Library, then proceeded to Westchester, New York City and Long Island.

The Guilderland Public Library will be closed on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24; Christmas Day, Dec. 25; and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1. We will close at 2 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31.

We extend our best wishes for the holiday season and year ahead!

Board vacancies

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees is looking to fill two vacancies for positions that would run through June 2022. Interested individuals are invited to submit a resume and a brief statement of interest to: no later than Jan. 10, 2022.

Story time

Meet us via Zoom for a lively interactive storytime on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m., ideal for children ages infant-age 5. We’ll read books, sing songs and enjoy a fun time together!  Please register online, where you’ll find a list of common household items that can be used with the songs and rhymes. We also read picture books to viewers every Friday on our YouTube channel.

Y2K Virtual

Escape Room

Travel back in time with us to New Year’s Eve 1999 to stop the Y2K computer bug and save the future! Join us Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. for this engaging virtual escape room for ages 16 and up, and have fun reliving the late 90s in the process. Register on the Events tab of our website to receive the Zoom link in advance.

Activity kits

As of this writing, the following activity kits are available for pick-up the week of Dec. 27:

— Winter break cozy family bag (family/all ages);

— Baby activity kit: movin’ & groovin’ (ages 6-24 months); and

— Tween activity kit: hot chocolate candles (grades 6-12).

Please register promptly on the Events tab of our website - these kits tend to “sell out” quickly.

Our trusty computer coach, Robin, is ready to help you get the most out of your Apple device.  She can also assist with the Learning Express tool on our website to help you craft a winning résumé. Browsing hours

Masks are required for patrons ages 2 and up. GPL policies based on current COVID conditions are outlined in our Pandemic Operations Plan, accessible on our website. Current hours are: Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m; Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday 1 to 5 p.m.
