The Guilderland Public Library celebrated its reopening following construction with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Sept. 24. We’re excited to welcome patrons back into the newly-renovated and expanded library the week of Sept. 27! Browsing and photocopying are available.

Hours are Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Masks are required to enter GPL. Capacity is currently limited to 100 at a time, due to COVID restrictions and based on our Pandemic Operation Plan (posted at https://guilderlandlibrary.org/get-to-know-us/people/board-of-trustees/). Please limit your visit to 30 minutes, so that all can visit while maintaining social distancing.

Meeting and study rooms are not yet available. Public computers, stalled by global microchip shortages, are expected in mid-October.

Curbside operations continue for those who prefer this option, allowing for 24-hour notice to process your request. Our holds shelf near the circulation desk and self-checkout stations are also accessible for contactless transactions.
 

Preschool

Activity Kit

Did you know — GPL has a big fish tank? We do! This activity kit, specially created for preschoolers, will include a fish craft, along with a slightly-spooky Halloween-themed craft. Supplies are limited. Please register on the Events tab of our website, then pick up your child’s kit starting Tuesday, Oct. 5.  
 

Outdoor Flu

Vaccine Clinic

Rite Aid pharmacists will administer flu vaccines on Wednrsday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to  2 p.m. at our annual outdoor drop-in clinic in GPL's main parking lot. Masks plus on-site temperature checks and health questionnaires are required.

Both the regular vaccine and the high-dose option for people 65 and (subject to availability) will be available. Please provide your insurance card, or be prepared to pay $39.99. No appointment needed.
 

Night Owls Online

We’re reading "Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer in advance of our October meetup.  Please reserve a copy (call or email us at for assistance placing a hold), then register on the Events tab of our website for our book discussion on Monday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m.  
 

Craft graveyard

Help us put some of our craft supplies to rest by picking up a goodie bag that's all treats, no tricks. You'll get an assortment of projects and supplies, including some that are Halloween-themed and some that aren't. It will be enough to make a few projects (or one big monstrous mash). 

Please register on the Events tab of our website, then pick up starting Tuesday, Oct. 12. Send a pictures of your creation(s) to if you'd like us to share them on social media.
 

Click Clack Campout

Farmer Brown’s friends are excited to visit the library and go camping, but Duck is not happy! In this kit for kids in prekindergarten through second grade, you’ll get a copy of “Duck Stays in the Truck,” by Doreen Cronin, a duck puppet craft, and suggestions for indoor camping at home. Please register on the Events tab of our website, then pick up starting Tuesday, Oct. 12.
 

Drug Take-Back Day

GPL and the Guilderland Police Department are teaming up again for semi-annual nationwide Drug Take-Back Day, a one-day collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets.


This drive-through event is scheduled to be held in the library’s parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drug Take-Back Day officials will not ask questions of nor request identification from anyone. Please see the Events tab of our website for more information.

Our next Zoom meetup for craft-minded folks isn’t until Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., but we’re asking you to read “Craftfulness: Mend Yourself by Making Things” in advance.  Please secure this book from us (call or email if you need assistance), then register on the Events tab of our website for the link to participate.
