Guilderland Library Notes for Wednesday, March 10, 2021

The Guilderland Public Library is offering virtual Chair Yoga in conjunction with Albany Guardian Society on Wednesday, March 17, at 1:30 p.m. for all skill levels. This class is taught by Judith England, RN, a certified Kripalu Yoga instructor.  

By this time of year, we’re always anxious to welcome spring and the growing season! The Guilderland Public Library has a kit for kids in grades 6 through 12 that includes materials and directions to grow your own crystal and make seed-planting paper.

Please register on the Events tab of our website, then pick up your materials during our curbside hours beginning Friday, March 12 at 10 a.m. 

Chair Yoga

Join us online Wednesday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. for a fun Chair Yoga class designed to short-circuit stress and build flexibility, balance, and strength. No yoga experience necessary; an armless, straight-backed chair, comfortable clothing, and internet connection are all you need.

This session is led by Judith England, RN, a certified Kripalu Yoga Instructor, and offered through Albany Guardian Society.  Please register on the Events tab of our website; AGS will email you the link to participate. If you have an ongoing health issue, please check with your health care provider in advance.  

DIY Hand Lettering

Teens & Adults:  try your hand at creative calligraphy!  Register on the Events tab of our website, then pick up your supply of paper, brush tip markers, and other resources during our curbside hours beginning Wednesday, March 24 at 10 a.m.

Avoiding Online Scams

Internet scams are rampant these days, and increasingly sophisticated schemes are popping up every day. Even the most savvy technology user can fall victim to fraud.  Arm yourself with the most current knowledge! 

GPL welcomes officers from the Guilderland Police Department on Wednesday, March 24 at 6:30 p.m. to relay the latest online scams and offer tips to avoid them.  Please register on the Events tab of our website for the Zoom link.

Earbuds & Bookmarks

We're building an online community of podcast enthusiasts, and you're invited!  Each month, we'll listen to a different podcast or episode, then connect online.  This month’s podcast discussion on Saturday, March 27 at 3 p.m. will center on “Five Games for Doomsday,” an interview with Grant Lyon first aired on January 4, 2021. Please register on the Events tab of our website to get the GoToMeeting link the day before.

Phone number update

During the pandemic, we employed temporary phone numbers to assist with general and circulation-related calls answered remotely.

Beginning Wednesday, March 10, we will use our main phone number only:  518-456-2400.  Please use this number to contact GPL, as the temporary phone numbers will be phased out.

Board candidates sought

The Guilderland Public Library Board of Trustees has four vacancies. Interested individuals who are U.S. citizens residing within the Guilderland School District and at least 18 years old may download application materials at https://bit.ly/GPLBoardCandidates; or email or call 518.456.2400 ext. 112 to obtain an information packet. All candidate nomination forms are due to the Guilderland Central School District clerk by Monday, April 19 for the Tuesday May 18 vote.

We have compiled a list of handy resources at:  https://bit.ly/GPLTaxes. Federal and state tax forms and instructions are available for pick up during curbside hours inside our Normanskill Room. Please follow the signs onsite and use the side entrance.  

Printing on demand 

We can print a document up to 20 black-and-white pages or 10 color pages at no cost to you, and deliver it curbside with our PrinterOn service!  See https://bit.ly/GPLPrint for instructions. You can also use the PrinterOn app to send us your print jobs.

Curbside hours

Pick up requested materials Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from  10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday from  1 to 7 p.m.; Saturday from  10 a.m to 2 p.m. and Sunday from  2 to 4 p.m. through the Normanskill Room side door.  Return items anytime (except holidays) to the quarantine sheds in our main parking lot.
