Berne Library Notes for Thursday, December 13, 2018

Festive happenings are all a chitter at the Berne Public Library. Decorations are being placed, a book tree with lights sits near the music CDs, and various holiday movies are flying off the shelves — “Merry Madagascar,” “Santa Paws 2,” “The 12 Dogs of Christmas.” Plus a slew of reindeer, sled, and gingerbread-making books.

Story time

Racing forward to Dec.18, music simmers in the background as “Holiday Sounds, Smells and Surprises” get under way for this week’s 10:30 a.m. story time. Who’s that grinning by the doorway wearing red and having a jolly fine belly laugh? Kids 5 and under, with your caregivers, set your sights for a story, snacks and jingle bells all the way.

Hat donations

A step back and full skeins ahead to the Knit Wits ‘Warm Head Project’. They’re all about keeping the heat in for toddlers, teens and one size fits allers. Throw your hats into the circle and help the ‘crazy about yarn’ group reach their goal. Join the Knit Wit gathering on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. for a yakkity yak, a clickety clack and a you can also bring some hats. Or, and this is just a thought, drop your hat donations at the library.

Educational Alzheimer’s program

Wake up, raise your hands and drop in to learn some basics in the world of Alzheimer’s. On Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m., an educational program, “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia”, will be given by the Alzheimer’s Association. Remember to save the date, write it down and set the alarm to take a seat at this free presentation.

Art Wall

Following on the heels of November’s “Buildings, Businesses & Happenings” display is the newest Art Wall addition to the community room. Photographer Michelle Johnston shares a stunning array of photos dubbed aptly “The Mountain”. Scenic views, shots of farm fields and houses in various stages of winter, spring, summer and fall. Soothing and calming, the pictures invite you in to experience quiet moments caught and shared.

Walking to the Moon

Meet Kathy at 8:30 a.m. for a half hour walk or exercise video on Dec. 22 This is week 4 of 6 to add more steps to the moon walk challenge. Visit librarymoonwalk.sals.edu and add your own time, steps or miles to this easy does it walking challenge.

Holiday closings

A wee reminder that the library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 as well as Dec. 31 and Jan 1, 2019. All other hours remain the same. Check the library website www.bernepubliclibrar.org to keep up to date on library closures, regular program meetings and other special presentations in the works.
