New Scotland residents may now recycle plastics 1 through 7

To the Editor:

Great news on the recycling front!

Residents of New Scotland may now recycle plastics 4 through 7 in addition to 1 to 3.

A friend had asked me why New Scotland recycles only plastics 1 to 3, while other Albany County communities recycle 1 through 7. I called Robert Wright, and they confirmed that, due to recent changes, they are now able to accept plastics 1 through 7.

The town of New Scotland will update its website accordingly, and in the meantime, all our New Scotland neighbors should know that we can now recycle plastics 1 through 7.

This change will thankfully keep many plastics out of the waste stream and get them to appropriate recycling facilities.
