GUILDERLAND — The last day before spring break, April 18, was the culmination of almost a year’s work for Guilderland High School’s International Club, when it held its cultural fair.

Students staffed booths from countries around the world, serving food, and relating interesting facts.

Wearing dresses that layer sheer white over bright blue, two young women strike a pose at the end of a traditional South Korean dance. 

The first-ever International Night at Lynnwood Elementary School brought people together to celebrate diversity.

Penny Shaw, along with her husband, Rich Bartley, is directing a new generation of Comedy Kids in a new version of Shaw’s play “Not Yer Av’rage Fairytale.”

Berne-Knox-Westerlo students with disabilities who were tested were among the lowest 10-percent in their group for English, math, and science, and were also among the lowest 10-percent for growth in English and math, according to a spokeswoman for the State Education Department.

In a new program at Berne-Knox-Westerlo, students from Daishan High School in China are staying with host families in the district for a week and attending classes with BKW students.

For two years, Samantha Dell-Acqua has studied theater and film technology through the Career and Technical Education program. She is interested in every aspect of theater, she said, but her first love is acting.

Every vote was unanimous at Monday’s Berne-Knox-Westerlo School Board meeting as members basked in good news — ranging from success including special-need students in general-education classrooms to securing expected state aid for $20 million in capital improvements.

Febronia Mansour, a senior at Guilderland High School, discusses her last three years of studies that range from the study of one's gait to examining the link of Alzheimer's disease and autism and using the species Caenorhabditis elegans, a type of roundworm, to study neuroscience.

 

More than 1,000 pieces of artwork created by students from 15 Capital Region school districts will be on view on the Empire State Plaza Concourse through March 18.

At the University at Albany, an increase in applicants may be due in part to an opportunity to attend tuition-free.
