EAST BERNE — Eileen F. Sweeney, who worked with Berne doctors for many years, died peacefully on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at the Shaker Place (Albany County Nursing Home). She was 94.

The daughter of the late Daniel and Frances (née King) Day, she was the devoted wife of over 54 years, to the late Leonard Sweeney.

EAST BERNE — Gail JoAnne Thompson, who handed down values like honesty and compassion from her parents to her children, died at home on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, surrounded by her family. She was 72.

BERNE — Devoted family man and founder of Revere Construction, of Berne, Visvaldis Puzulis died on Thursday, Oct 3, 2019. He was 82.

VOORHEESVILLE — Joan Roeder Barron — a mother and grandmother, a teacher and librarian — died on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at Our Lady of Mercy nursing home. She was 88.

She is the daughter of the late Ernest William Roeder, and Helen Eleanor Stiefel Roeder Herron. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Edward Herron.

ALTAMONT — Nancy J. Lown, known as “Nan,” died on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family; her caregivers; and her dogs, Bear and Lady. She was 87.

She was born in Albany, the daughter of the late William H. McCann and Mary E. McCann. Her loving husband of 63 years, Victor, died in June 2018.

BERNE — Archaeologist Dwight T. Wallace, whose work took him to Mexico, Guatemala, and Peru, died late Tuesday, Oct. 1, of natural causes. He was 92, and living in Portland, Oregon.

SCHOHARIE — “Be good to each other and take care of each other,” said Richard Bogardus of the lesson his late wife, Lorraine Bogardus, imparted to those around her.  Mrs. Bogardus died on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, at Palatine Bridge Nursing Home. She was 82. 

VOORHEESVILLE — Lois Rapp Crounse, who crossed the country with her husband on a motorcycle before she settled in the Voorheesville home she loved, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at St. Peter’s Hospital. She was 93.

SCHOHARIE — Victor A. Santore was a husband, a father, a veteran, and a man who knew how to get things done. He died peacefully at home on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, in the loving presence of his family. He was 102.

Robert Bareis Sr., founder of Altamont Spray Welding, was a devoted family man. He died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2019, at the Albany County Nursing Home. He was 83 years old.
