Photos: Guilderland Girls Bring Home A National Championship

On Saturday and Sunday, June 17 and 18, the Guilderland track and field teams traveled to Philadelphia to compete at the New Balance Nationals on the historic Franklin Field track on the campus of University of Pennsylvania against the best in the country over a four-day event.

Quick over: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr glides over the hurdle in the 100-meter hurdle portion of the pentathlon on Saturday morning. Kerr finished 16th in the event with a time of 16.73 seconds for 627 points.

Eyes ahead: Guilderland’s Parker Steele clears the hurdle in the championship 100-meter hurdles. Steele finished 47th with a time of 14.92 seconds.

Big push: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr brings her shot with momentum as she prepares to throw it in the shot-put portion in the pentathlon. Kerr finished 15th with a distance of 24 feet, 10 inches for 372 points.

Big leap: Guilderland’s Kirsten Barnhart jumps from the board in the rising stars long jump event. Barnhart finished 41st with a distance of 16 feet, 5.25 inches.

Taking the lead: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr gets ahead of Saratoga’s (Kinetic team) Genevieve Duchaussee in the 800-meter portion of the pentathlon. Kerr won the event with a time of 2:19.48 for 831 points and she finished 15th overall with 3007 points.

Going neck and neck: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart makes the turn after getting the baton from Saida Assabahi, in the middle back, as Barnhart battles Purple TC’s Rachel Forsyth in the 400-meter portion of the championship 1600-meter sprint medley relay (200m, 200m, 400m and 800m). Guilderland’s relay team won the school’s first national championship with a new meet record of 3:37.66.

Best of the best: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop raises her arms up as she crosses the finish line and breaks the tape nearly two seconds in front of Motor City Track from Detroit, Michigan in the championship 1600-meter sprint medley relay. Guilderland’s relay team won the school’s first national championship with a new meet record of 3:37.66.

Leading the way: Guilderland’s Kara Whiteside makes the turn in front as she starts the second lap in the middle school 800-meters. Whiteside finished 14th overall with a time of 2:23.77.

Coming in for a landing: Guilderland’s Tatum Cramer sails through the air after leaping from the board in the championship long jump. Cramer finished 28th overall with a distance of 18 feet, 0.50 inches, she also finished 12th overall in the rising stars triple jump with a distance of 37 feet, 1.75 inches.

Running with the best: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop battles alongside two of her competitors in the championship 800-meters. Vellekoop finished 11th overall with a time of 2:09.00.
