Photos: Striving For States

Track athletes from Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo made a last try on Thursday and Friday to get to the state competition near Syracuse next weekend. Only two qualified: Noah Tindale and Isabella Bruno — both from Guilderland. The state qualifiers were held at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park.

Closer: Guilderland's Noah Tindale runs in the pack in the Division I 800-meter dash where he passed four other runners to finish second with a time of 1:55.87, qualifying in the event for state competition at Cicero-North Syracuse High School in Cicero.

Hop, skip, and a jump: Guilderland's Isabella Bruno leaps toward the pit in the Division I triple jump on Friday afternoon. Bruno broke the school record with a distance of 38 feet, 7 inches and won the event. Bruno also competed in the long jump, qualifying in that event as well, with a distance of 17 feet, 6 inches.

Hair flying: Bulldogs’ Michelle Puzulis leaps over a jump in the Division II 2000-meter steeplechase on Friday afternoon. Puzulis finished eighth with a time of 8:21.80.

Fighting hard: Voorheesville’s Evan Ensslin runs hard in the Division II 800-meter dash last Thursday. Ensslin finished second with a time of 1:59.40 and also competed in the Division II 1600-meter run, finishing second in that as well with a time of 4:30.40.

Down the stretch: Guilderland’s Brad Igweike sprints around the turn in the Division I 200-meter dash on Friday afternoon. Igweike finished second with a time of 22.85.

Maximum effort: Guilderland’s Jordon Kimbrough leaps from the block in the boys’ Division I triple-jump state qualifier at Shenendehowa High School last Thursday afternoon for a chance to move onto the state competition on June 8 and 9 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School. Kimbrough finished in fifth with a distance of 44 feet, one-half inch.

Easy does it: Guilderland’s Kendra LeBel clears a hurdle in the Division I 400-meter hurdle event. LeBel finished in fifth with a time of 1:08.51.

Mad dash: Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Kara Sherwin sprints down the track in the finals of the Division II in the 100-meter dash on Friday. Sherwin finished seventh with a time of 13.07 seconds.

They’re off! Guilderland’s Alexa Thompson, right, battles Cambridge’s Ruth Nolan at the start of of the 4-by-800 meter relay. Guilderland is in Division I and Cambridge is in Division II. The two divisions ran in the same race on Friday afternoon at Shenendehowa for the state qualifiers. Guilderland’s relay team finished third with a time of 9:59.96.
