Photos: Dutch Move On to States, Birds And Bulldogs Compete Well

Last Thursday and Friday, June 1 and 2, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, and Voorheesville track teams competed to qualify for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association competition. The Dutch will have three relay teams and eight individuals competing.

Bird flying: Voorheesville’s Haley Murphy clears the hurdle in the 100-meter hurdle portion of the pentathlon on Thursday afternoon. Murphy finished ninth in the hurdles with a time of 20.18 seconds and eighth in the pentathlon with 1740 points.

Hot running: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart sprints down the track towards the finish line in the 400-meter dash. Barnhart won with a time of 57.85 seconds.

Out quick: Voorheesville’s Wiley Dawson-Beilby pushes off his left foot as he starts his 400-meter dash heat on Thursday. Dawson-Beilby finished fifth with a time of 52.30 seconds.

Cruising Dutch: Guilderland’s Brady Conboy looks towards the finish line as he approaches it in the 400-meter dash. Conboy finished in fifth with a time of 52.34 seconds.

Over with ease: Guilderland’s Avery Kerr sails over the bar easily in the high jump portion in the pentathlon. Kerr won with a height of 4 feet, 11.75 inches and second overall with 3094 points and broke the school record and is the first Dutch with over 3000 points.

Warming up for states: Guilderland’s Parker Steele clears the hurdle in the 400 intermediate hurdles event on Thursday. Steele finished in sixth with a time of 1:21.22 but has qualified for the State meet in the 100-meter hurdles.

Coming in for a landing: Guilderland’s Billy Bogue flies through the air in the long jump event. Bogue finished eighth with a distance of 18 feet, 10.50 inches.

Big leap: The Bulldogs’ Arlen Wright jumps off his left foot and soars over the bar with ease in the high jump event in the pentathlon. Wright tied in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 11.75 inches, and second overall with 2916 points.

Battle in the heat: Guilderland’s Aakash Iyer (2) battles in the crowd of division one and division two as Voorheesville’s Mason Curl trails. Iyer finished fourth in division one with a time of 9:46.49 and Curl fifth in division two with a time of 10:27.72.

Catching up: Voorheesville’s Chloe Kirgan tries to pass Schuylerville’s Keira Rogan in the rerun of the 800-meter run. Kirgan finished in fifth with a time of 2:26.77 on Friday afternoon.

Pumping his arms: Guilderland’s Ethan Solomon comes out of his blocks fast in the 100-meter heat. Solomon finished 11th overall with a time of 11.52 seconds.

All-out effort: Guilderland’s Elizabeth Liu uses all her strength to lift off the ground to clear the bar in the high jump. Liu won the event and moves onto states with a height of 5 foot, 3 inches.

Gliding over the air: Guilderland’s Kirsten Barnhart flies after taking her last step in the triple jump. Barnhart finished in seventh with a distance of 35 feet, 10 inches.

Off and running: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop battles Saratoga’s Emily Bush in the early stages of the division 1 1500-meter run. Vellekoop finished in second and made states in the event and in the 800-meters.

In the mix: Guilderland’s Will Smitas runs along with Saratoga’s Thomas Isenovski and Albany’s Graham Richard during the early laps of the 1600-meter run. Smitas finished in fourth with a time of 4:24.20.

Effort at the line: Bulldogs’ Katie Stevens battles Tamarac’s Emma Waugh and Greenwich’s Sarah Radovich in the division 2 finals in the 100-meter dash. Stevens finished third with a time of 12.96 seconds.

Down to the wire: Guilderland’s Tatum Cramer battles Ballston Spa’s Gabrielle Bozeth are close together as they approach the line in the finals in the 100-meter dash. Cramer won with a time of 12.31 seconds.

On his toes: Guilderland’s Trevor Whitney inches ahead of Ballston Spa’s Kala’l Makanani and Schenectady’s Chems Eddine Djoubani as they near the finish line. Whitney finished in 3rd with a time of 22.67 seconds.
