Photos: States Await For Dutch Athletes

On Sunday, Feb. 5, Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo competed in many events against the top Section 2 athletes at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. After all the events were completed, Guilderland qualified for six individual events and one relay team event, to compete at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on March 4.

Hurdle battle: BKW’s Arlen Wright, center, battles Shenendehowa’s Jason Colindres and Guilderland’s TJ Casavant in the third heat of the boys’ 55-meter hurdles preliminaries. Wright finished overall in 10th with a time of 8.79 seconds and Casavant finished in 18th with a time of 9.42 seconds.

Intensity: BKW’s Katie Stevens sprints down the track as she battles Niskayuna’s Kaleigh West in the 10th heat of the girls 55-meter dash. Stevens battled in the finals to finish seventh overall with a time of 7.70 seconds.

Floating: Guilderland’s Brady Convoy battles Albany’s Patrick Ponzo, III and Shenendehowa’s Zane Ives in the seventh heat in the boys’ 55-meter dash. Convoy finished 22nd overall with a time of 7.21 seconds.

Battle upfront: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart, center, and Parker Steele clear the hurdles in the finals of the 55-meter hurdles. Barnhart finished fourth with a time of 9.11 seconds and Steele, qualified for states, finished first with a time of 8.86 seconds.

Down the stretch they come: Guilderland’s Megan Swan (5) and Tatum Cramer (3) battle Niskayuna’s Kaleigh West and Petrina Zborovszky in the finals of the 55-meter dash. Swan finished second, qualifying for states, with a time of 7.57 seconds and Cramer, qualified for states in long jump, finished fifth with a time of 7.66.

At the line! Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop, Bethlehem’s Charlotte O’Meara, and Shaker’s Kaleigh Higgins all are close together at the finish line in the girls’ 1000-meter run. Vellekoop won, qualified for states and qualified in the 600-meters, with a time of 2:59.17.
