Photos: BKW-Middleburgh Claw The Competition, Send Five To State Quals

On Saturday, Feb. 3, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo/Middleburgh wrestling team competed in the Section 2, Class D sectional wrestling tournament at Tamarac High School in Brunswick. The eight-man BKW team competed with the other Class D wrestlers and will send five to next week’s state qualifiers in Glens Falls.

All his might: Bulldogs’ Drew Ballato uses his strength to push down on Taconic HIlls’ Alexander Garrity shoulders in an attempt to pin Garrity as the ref looks on in their 152-pound first round match. Ballato won by pin in 1:15 and finished fourth to qualify for state qualifiers.

Roll back: Bulldogs’ Christian Arsenault lays on top of Greenville’s Caleb Burrage as Arsenault tries to roll the other shoulder onto the mat in the 170-pound quarterfinal match. Arsenault won by pin in 1:09 and finished in third to qualify for state qualifiers.

Under close eye as the ref, right, watches Bulldogs’ Owen Lounsbury attempt to put Coxsackie-Athens’ Thomas Gibney’s shoulders onto the mat in their 160-pound quarterfinal match. Lounsbury won by pin in 3:13 and finished sixth overall.

Wrapped like a pretzel: Bulldogs’ Matthew Cyr weaves his arms around Tamarac’s Bobby Rokjer in an attempt to roll Rokjer onto his back during their 215-pound quarterfinal match. Cyr lost by pin in 4:35 and finished fourth to qualify for state qualifiers.

Made his move: Bulldogs’ Lincoln Snyder gets his hand on the back of Greenville’s Kaleb Petit’s neck to roll him onto his back in their semifinal 190-pound match. Snyder won by pin in 4:11 and then finished second to qualify for state qualifiers.
