Photos: Dutch Girls On Verge Of Sectional Title, Earn Multiple Titles

On Sunday, Jan. 29, the Guilderland indoor track team took part in the Section 2, Division 1 sectionals competition at Union College. Guilderland girls led Saratoga 168 to 90 with the throwing competition, shot put, and weight throw, on Saturday. Guilderland took home five individual and one relay sectional titles. The boys came in sixth with 27 points.

Teammate battle: Guilderland’s Adrian Cummings and Ethan Solomon battle in the 55-meter hurdle semifinal. Cummings finished in fifth with a time of 8.19 seconds and Solomon in 8th with a time of 8.81 seconds.

High lean: Guilderland’s Elizabeth Liu leaps from the floor to easily get over the bar. Liu won the high jump event with a height of 4 feet, 10 inches.

Battle to the line: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart clears the hurdle as she goes against Shenendehowa’s Ginna Minehardt and Schenectady’s Niomi Rogers in the finals of the 55-meter hurdle. Barnhart won the event with a time of 7.98 seconds.

Battle at the start: Guilderland’s Alex Blasiak and Ben Mayer battle three other runners at the beginning of the 1600-meter run. Blasiak finished in 16th with a time of 5:18.66 and Mayer finished 18th with a time of 5:21.26.

Leader of the pack: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop leads the group of eight runners in the second heat of the girls’ 600-meter run. Vellekoop won the event with a time of 1:39.56.

Dutch pack: Guilderland’s Tara Iyer (6), Braelyn Cornell (5), and Kara Whiteside (14) run together as they make a lap in their 3000-meter run. Iyer finished in 8th with a time of 11:11.36, Cornell didn’t finish and Whiteside in 10th with a time of 11:46.77.

Battle upfront: Guilderland’s Aakash Iyer and Shenendehowa’s Jonathan Wolf run close together in the 3200-meter run most of the race. Iyer finished second with a time of 9:56.41.

Side by side: Guilderland’s Cayden Hutchinson races down the track alongside Saratoga’s Ethan Straughter in the first semifinal heat in the 55 meter run. Hutchinson finished in 19th with a time of 6.26 seconds.

Pushing and shoving: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop (1) and Rebecca Kleiber (8) along with the other competitors in the 1000-meter run as they all battle for position on the first turn. Vellekoop finished second with a time of 3:03.14 and Kleiber finished in 9th with a time of 3:22.98.
