Photos: Dutch Take Title On Girls Side While Others Run Well

On Sunday, Jan. 8, the Guilderland Dutchmen and Berne-Knox-Westerlo Bulldogs indoor teams took part in the Ed Cepiel Invitational held at Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Guilderland girls won the title while the boys finished in eighth. The Bulldogs finished in 33rd for the girls and the boys didn’t score any points.

Quick hurdler: Guilderland’s Kendall Barnhart flies over the first hurdle in the 55-meter event. She finished first overall with a time of 8.66 seconds. Barnhart broke the school record in the 55-meter hurdle. She also won the 200-meter hurdle with a time of 30.11 seconds.

Big exhale: Guilderland’s Parker Steele easily clears the hurdle in the 55-meter hurdle event. Steele finished second with a time of 8.79 seconds and then finished fourth in the 200-meter hurdle with a time of 30.43 seconds.

Battling along: Guilderland’s Aakash Iyer (2) and William Smitas (3) ran together in a pack of runners in the 1600-meter run. Iyer finished third with a time of 4:31.53 and Smitas finished fifth with a time of 4:32.36.

Determined: Guilderland’s Megan Swan gets alongside Shenendehowa’s Node Udeh in their heat in the 55-meter dash.  Swan finished second with a time of 7.48 seconds then went on to finish second in the finals with a time of 7.42 seconds.
