Voorheesville Library Notes for Thursday, May 10, 2018

Join us at the Voorheesville Public Library on Sunday, May 13, at 2 p.m. for this newly released version of an Agatha Christie mystery where detective Hercule Poirot takes a train ride through Europe. Murder, mayhem, and mystery abound as Hercule sorts through multiple suspects to discover whodunnit. The film is rated PG-13 and runs for 114 minutes. Light refreshments will be served.

Cloud storage

Want to get a handle on the nebulous "cloud?" Join us on Tuesday, May 15 at 6 p.m. as we demystify the cloud and look at its advantages and disadvantages. Then we will spend time-saving and managing files in the cloud and accessing them over the internet.

Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the library’s laptops. Optionally, bring a second device for even more hands on practice. Please register for one session.

The right college at the right price

Dean P. Skarlis, president of the College Advisor of New York will be leading the discussion Wednesday, May 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on college admissions and financial strategy for parents of high school sophomores and juniors. Please register.

Beading workshop

Every month the library holds a beading workshop, where you can learn easy beading techniques for making simple jewelry, fix a favorite piece, or use some of your old pieces to make a new piece.

This month, we will meet on Thursday, May 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.. There is a small materials fee depending on which project you choose. Stop by anytime during the workshop that fits your schedule.

Make a quilt

Join us for a weekend class to make a Trip Around the World quilt. Local quilter, Patsy Quimby, will be here from 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19 and 1 p.m. Sunday, May 20 to teach the pattern.

The materials list will be emailed electronically or at the library for pickup upon signup. Bring your lunch for Saturday, beverages will be offered. Please sign up for this two-day program at the May 19 calendar registration. Must be able to attend both days to register for this class.

Password workshop

Don’t settle for passwords like “123456.” In this class, we will discuss the basics of computer security and generate strong, unique passwords using different methods.

Then we will look at tools for storing and accessing them on demand across multiple devices. Participants can bring their own devices, or use one of the Library’s laptops. Please register for either the 11 a.m. or the 6 p.m. session on Monday, May 21.

Budget vote

The annual School District and Library budget vote will be held on Tuesday, May 15, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Voorheesville Middle School. If you did not vote last year, please be prepared to provide the clerk with identification.
