Trees worth noting

To the Editor:
I was interested to read the article about the town of Guilderland’s plan for saving trees [“Guilderland intends to educate with new law to protect native trees,” The Altamont Enterprise, Dec. 12, 2022].

Your photograph of that beautiful white oak on Halfmoon Drive reminded me of two wonderful specimens that, last time I looked, are growing near the corner of French’s Hollow Road and French’s Mills Road.

They are surely about 100 years old, and should be noted in any census of the town’s trees.

I also enjoyed Jeff Perlee’s article on trees in New York State “As primeval forest was cleared for farmland, wildlife left with the trees — pathogens and lumbering also took their toll,” The Altamont Enterprise, Dec. 16, 2022].
