Grateful for Enterprise tax coverage and town board’s letter

To the Editor:
Our local newspaper, The Enterprise, is a valuable community resource. It plays a vital role in making residents aware of what is happening in our community.

In a Nov. 2, 2023 story it told us of a proposed town of Berne tax increase [“With 752-percent increase, Berne proposes highest tax rate since 2016,” Nov. 3, 2023]. Some readers found the content of the story troubling.

They attended the Nov. 8 town board meeting and requested a letter be sent to The Enterprise explaining in more detail how residents would be impacted by the proposed tax increase. In the Nov 7 issue Supervisor Dennis Palow and the Berne Town Board did just that “This letter will help to alleviate tax concerns,”]!

Their well written letter was extremely detailed and provided all the additional information which local residents had requested.

Thank you, Enterprise, for your initial coverage of the tax proposal and for printing the response.  Thank you, Supervisor Palow, and Berne Town Board members for not only listening to local residents but also taking the time and effort to provide such a comprehensive response.
