I cringe every time I drive by

To the Editor:

Good people of the town of Berne! As an observer from a nearby town, I continue to be mystified by your complacency on certain issues in your quaint town.

Your town highway superintendent lives in squalor with a “residence” that takes up a large swath of a corner in town.

His sidewalk is impassable to pedestrians, and his town-provided red highway department pickup truck is permanently parked at the town historical society, or the post office.

To add insult to injury, this elected official has the gall to triumphantly hang numerous Trump banners and flags the length of his property. It’s a disgrace.

I can’t help but think of the many school buses full of our beautiful, impressionable, innocent children who are reading that propaganda twice a day.

I wonder what the charming neighboring business owners must think. We won’t know because they’re both much too tactful and discreet as business owners to offer their opinion. They must cringe.

As someone who patronizes these businesses, I certainly cringe every time I have to drive by it.

Why aren’t you voters doing something about it?
