Moving beyond the divisive ‘us versus them’ mentality

To the Editor:
My name is Bill Hall and I am proud to be on the ballot this November running for Westerlo Town Council.

Serving others has always been a part of my life. Whether through the music school that I owned and operated for nearly 20 years, coaching sports teams and Odyssey of the Mind for my children, or providing the community with food from our farm, I have always tried to make my corner of the world just a little better.

Several years ago, I became involved with local government and stepped in wherever I was needed. When vacancies occurred on the Westerlo Planning Board and Museum Board I was more than happy to fill them. When the Farmers’ Market was struggling to get off the ground, I volunteered as market manager. I saw a need to review and revise our local laws, so I formed the Local Law Review Committee.

On the town council, I will continue to work hard for the community.

As a business owner, I have developed the skills to evaluate budgets, manage expenses, and understand employment issues. I will use these skills to make sure the town stays fiscally sound.

As a farmer, I feel it is important to make sure Westerlo supports and protects agriculture. One of the first things I will do is craft a Right to Farm Law for the town. This is something that was called for in our comprehensive plan but has yet to be implemented.

I feel every body of government should periodically review its laws to ensure they are clear, appropriate, and current. This is why I formed the Westerlo Local Law Review Committee. We’ve worked diligently to review our local laws and I’m committed to continuing this effort as a member of the town council to ensure that our laws align with our community’s needs and values.

How we do things matters as much as the things we do.

I believe in moving beyond the divisive “us versus them” mentality that often characterizes politics. To this end, I have chosen to run my campaign independently of others. This allows me to maintain a neutral perspective when assessing issues. I’m willing to collaborate on the issues I agree with and, after respectful debate, agree to disagree when I don’t.

My approach involves listening to all perspectives, conducting thorough research, and applying my own principles to craft practical solutions. I tend to listen more than I speak and I spend hours doing independent research to make sure I understand all sides of a problem.

My mission is to do things the right way and for the right reasons. Your support would mean the world to me and enable me to continue serving you and our community with dedication, integrity, and passion.

I’m not running against anyone, and I’m not running with anyone. I’m running to work for you and with you to make our town an even better place to call home.

William Hall
