ALTAMONT — Donald George Knaggs, owner of Knaggs Brothers Trucking, died at his Altamont home on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, after a battle with cancer. He was 69.

He was born in Schenectady on Dec. 16, 1953, the first of three children of the late Oscar and Joan Knaggs. He graduated from Guilderland High School.

“Throughout his life,” his family wrote in a tribute, “Donald owned and operated Knaggs Brothers Trucking and loved spending his days welding, fabricating, and farming at his home, Knaggs Farm. Often, people would remark about Donald’s incredibly strong handshakes and hugs, but more than that, he was known for his compassionate heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith in God.”

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nancy; his sons, George (Kathryn) Knaggs and Jason (Christina) Knaggs; his beloved grandchildren, Madeline, Oscar, Grant, Gavin, and Gage; his sister Janet (Jim) Watkins, brother Charles (Marisol) Knaggs, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Knaggs’ Farm at 4645 Western Turnpike in Altamont. Visiting hours will be held on Oct. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon with funeral service to follow at noon.

Internment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Altamont following the service. A reception at the Knaggs’ Farm will follow.
