Have fun and raise funds at the Voorheesville Public Library

To the Editor:

Jump into the fall of 2015 while jumping into the “leaves” of a “colorful” new used book. Put Friday, Sept. 18; Saturday, Sept. 19; and Sunday, Sept. 20, on your calendar. The Friends of the Library are hosting the Annual Used Book Sale at the Voorheesville Public Library.

Proceeds will go toward funding many programs held at the library throughout the year. This is the third year the event has been held outdoors due to its continuous growth and popularity. What a great way to celebrate the centennial for the Voorheesville Public Library.

Friends off the Library may attend a members-only preview night, which kicks off the sale on Friday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m.  Not a member? Not to worry; memberships can be purchased at the door for as little as $10.

At 10 a.m. on Saturday, the doors are opened to the public for the book and bake sale. Nimblefingers, the library’s needle crafting group, will be on hand to sell some of the members’ homemade crafts, talk crafting, and answer any questions you may have. They will be selling tickets for a donated quilt, with proceeds going to the Friends of the Library.

Don’t forget to check out the kids’ clothing swap in the community room. Beginning at 10:30 a.m., you may bring clean, gently used children's clothes (newborn to size 16), and shoes to the library and swap them out.

This is a great opportunity to de-clutter, upgrade, and be green. If you just want to donate clothes, as opposed to swapping them, we will be accepting donations Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 16 and 17, during regular library hours.

Sunday starts off at noon with fill-a-bag day. You can fill a grocery bag — bring your own —  with books for only $2.  Live music from Sonny & Perley will start at 12:30 p.m. They will perform from their “Great American Songbook” and the International Cabaret show will have you humming along as you search through the thousands of books, DVDs, audiobooks, and CDs.

This fundraising event is shaping up to be bigger and better than any other year. We all know that many hands make light work, and there are still various tasks that could use volunteers to assist us. Please do not be shy about contacting us as we always welcome new volunteers. (contact e-mail address: [email protected]) This sale will prove to be one that you will not want to miss. We hope to see you at the library!
