Altamont Fire Department to host vets on Comedy Night

ALTAMONT — A decade-old tradition for the Altamont Volunteer Fire Department has a new twist.

The department is inviting all veterans to attend the annual Brew Ha Ha Comedy Night hosted by Greg Aidala free of charge. Because the Comedy Night this year is on Saturday, Nov. 3, about a week before Veterans Day, the department is also planning a tribute to honor men and women in the military.

“Each year, we sell approximately 200 tickets to this even,” writes Mark Wertman, co-chair of the event, in a letter to area businesses, soliciting support. “Ticket sales pay for the talent, printing, advertising costs, and food and beverages provided to attendees. After expenditures, we are left with a modest profit that is used to help supplement our training and equipment budget.”

Wertman writes that, by providing free admission to veterans, the program will be operating at a deficit, and therefore local businesses are being canvassed. The price of admission is $25, and businesses are being invited to sponsor anywhere from one veteran to a table of 10.
