Support the 24th Altamont 5K as a competitor, walker, or volunteer

To the Editor:
Under three weeks to go before the 24th Altamont 5K (3.1 miles) Run/Walk will take place at Crupe Bozenkill Park on Gun Club Road in Altamont, the morning of Saturday, Aug. 27, with a 9 a.m. start.

The event benefits local food pantries and features a Community Walk for those who would like to join us and cannot run the 5K distance.

We would love to see a solid representation from the Altamont Community at this year’s event.

We will have awards for the top three overall male and female in the 5K run, featuring the Reid F. Northrup Memorial Award for the male winner and the Christine Marshall Memorial Award for our female winner.

There will also be awards to the top three male and female in 16 age groups. Awards for the walk will be top 10 male and female overall combined.

T-shirts are available for the first 150 people who pre-register, and we are featuring lots of post-race door prizes, along with refreshments. There will also be live music, starting near the halfway point of the course.

Registration is available online at our website  http://www.altamont5k.org.

All race info is at our website, including the course map, registration page, and an opportunity to download a race-entry form.

Those competing are asked to bring unexpired canned or dry goods.

Early thanks go out to our sponsors: Becker’s Property Maintenance; OrangeTheory Fitness; John Foley’s Garage; Altamont Orchards; Market 32; Stewart’s; Altamont Physical Therapy; Hannaford; Fass and Edwards, DDS; CJ Sabatini Opticians; The Fur Doctor; Ella’s Fairytale & Co.; and Ray Galluscio Horseshoeing LLC.

Also thanks to our musical talent: Dolce and North Allen Duo.

Besides these sponsors, and the many that will be added later, along with the athletes, volunteers help make events such as this successful.

We are in need of 10 to 20 volunteers. T-shirts go to all volunteers — no experience necessary, on-the-job training provided. Volunteers should email altamont5k@nycap.rr.com as soon as possible if interested in helping out.

So, please come out and support the 24th Altamont 5K Run/Walk, as a competitor, walker, or volunteer.
