VOORHEESVILLE — Kelly W. Thompson, a county corrections officer, was a proud parent who dedicated his life to community service.
He died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at his Voorheesville home. Born in Albany, he was a lifelong resident of Voorheesville.

“Kelly was a graduate of Clayton A. Bouton High School, Class of 1984,” his family wrote in a tribute. “For over 22 years, Kelly proudly served as a corrections officer at the Albany County Correctional Facility, and was with Albany County for nearly 30 years total. He also was the co-owner of B&B Sealcoating.

“Kelly was as selfless as they come, and dedicated his life to service in his community, as he was a proud member of the New Salem Fire Department. He also spent time as a Voorheesville Ambulance volunteer, and was also a part of the fire brigade at the Albany County Correctional Facility.

“You could always find Kelly at the grill, looking to make people happy through his love of food. He started working at Toll Gate Ice Cream at the age of 16, and was a happy member of their community for the greater part of two decades.

“Most importantly, Kelly was a proud parent of his three children, and would show it by supporting their endeavors, including attending Jessica’s concerts, cheering at Christopher’s basketball games, and being Eileen’s biggest fan as she starts her journey into St. Peter’s School of Nursing.”
