Appreciate what you have at Greenville

To the Editor:
This letter is in support of Jay Goodman and David Finch, incumbent candidates for the Greenville Central School District Board of Education.

We have been residents of the district for more than 50 years. Our now adult children were educated in the GCS system from their elementary years through high school. They thrived and excelled in athletics and music/theater, but more importantly, in academics.

Their achievements were due in no small measure to the quality of their teachers and the  educational framework, leadership, and operations of the district. It is a good school system.

When we began to hear and then read “the platform” of some of the candidates for the board of education we were concerned, very concerned. It seemed that they wanted to dismantle what is a very good system.

So we attended the public school budget hearing and the subsequent Meet the Candidates Form and came away even more concerned. It seems that two candidates, the Bucci brothers, do in fact want to dismantle the system — to change things that do not need change and should not be changed.

Could the system be better? Of course. But to paraphrase incumbent candidate David Finch, who taught for years in another nearby district: The Greenville district is a very, very good one — appreciate what you have.

We do appreciate our district, are pleased to support it, and believe that David Finch and Jay Goodman are the school board members who should be re-elected to continue the excellent GCS operation.

Thanks for reading. Please vote on May 17.
