This food drive is critical, please donate

To the Editor:
This Saturday, May 11, Altamont postal workers will pick up food as they make their way through their normal routes. This is the 32nd Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. All items will be donated to the Altamont Community Food Pantry.

This is the biggest food drive for our pantry and is greatly needed at this time. Unfortunately, I am told that no postcards or bags will be given out this year. So please, put items in any bag and leave it by your mailbox by 9 a.m. on Saturday or drop items off at the post office.

As the need continues to rise and donations are down, this food drive is critical. Thanks to the postal workers for doing this each year to help those in our community and thanks in advance to all who donate.

For anyone who recently donated to the Regional Food Bank’s neighborhood food drive, it’s unfortunate that the timing of these drives was only two weeks apart. Everything from the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive picked up in Altamont this Saturday will go directly to our food pantry.

For those outside of Altamont, check with your local post office to see if they are participating so that you can donate to your local food pantry.

Please, no expired, open or glass items. Thank you!
